When Google’s summary gets longer, people may never see your URL
Someone searches “system integration Taipei” on a phone. A block of text fills the screen. They flick twice and still have not reached the blue links. They may message the next shop before your URL appears.
Search Engine Land (28 Aug) reported that for some queries AI Overviews expand on their own — no “show more”. Google told the press this happens only when the system thinks it is useful, and it cancels the expansion if the person already started scrolling.
Which sentence on your site gets copied
The cheapest source for a summary is the HTML near the top of home and services. Slogans in images do not travel well. “Cloud partner for the future” gives the model nothing true to quote.
A sentence that survives a copy-paste. We have seen the other kind: “A cloud partner for the future, building a complete digital experience.” Anyone could claim it; once the summary copies it, you and the shop next door sound the same. Better: we build corporate sites and integrate backends; Taipei office, Taiwan-wide; contact via form or email. Short, specific, same address as the footer.
Once a month, a colleague searches your brand and the phrase you actually sell (integration, LINE support) in a private window. Screenshot wrong cities, dead phone numbers, branches you never opened. Match them back to a paragraph. You do not need to refresh it every morning.
Before Friday
- On a phone, can a stranger name your offer in 10 seconds?
- Strip empty adjectives under the H1
- State what you do and do not do (payments, LINE, no rank guarantees)
- Match address and email with the footer
- Incognito-search your brand and note wrong city or phone
We already argued SEO still matters. This note is narrower: longer summaries raise the cost of a wrong first line. See structure.
FAQs
Will every query expand?
No. Google says expansion happens when the system thinks it helps. If the person already started scrolling, expansion stops so the page does not jump.
Do titles still matter?
Yes. Many queries still show the classic list. When the overview expands, the first lines of the page matter more than a slogan title.
Should we lead with brand story?
Put story later. Lead with what you do, where you serve, how to contact you.
